On 7/26/2009 we explored the Cedar City (Utah) branch of Union Pacific. In times past this has been a major traffic generator for UP, and it still is. Of course back in the fifties UP used to run Utah Parks Special passenger trains every summer from the UP station in SLC to Cedar City. The branch diverges from the LA&SL main at Lund and heads southeast. Part way to Cedar another branch diverges to the south, the branch to Iron Mountain which in times past provided iron ore to Geneva Steel and CF&I. Perhaps the most exciting development has been the appearance of new activity on the Iron Moutain branch. Shown below is the south end of the wye which comes off of the Cedar City branch. The line heads south to Iron Mountain. Next
